Twenty-One Basics - Part Two
We resume our article on the abc's of twenty-one. In Part One we covered the approach of the game, taking another card, holding with the current hand and how to double down. In part two we'll discuss splitting, surrendering and insurance.
Split: if a player is handed 2 cards of the same value (2 eights as an example) the player may separate them to create 2 separate hands. If you decide to divide your hand you'll have to lay a new wager equivalent to the original wager.
Surrender: A few casinos will allow players to surrender the hand they have been dealt along with half of the initial bet they placed before the dealer looking at their hand. Keep in mind it's essential to ask the croupier for clarification on the table rules or check out the game rules section on the web casino you're gambling on.
Insurance: When the dealers exposed card is an Ace gamblers have the ability to take out insurance. You'll place half of the initial bet before the croupier looks at his cards; if the dealer has blackjack you'll win the insurance wager but still lose the original sum. Sadly if the dealer doesn't have twenty-one the gambler loses the insurance. It is a risk but one that's well worth it, if used as part of a smart strategy.
As soon as a player has stayed or gone bust by exceeding twenty-one the croupier will show his or her hand and will go on to deal themselves cards until 1 of the following things has happened: if they have reached seventeen, a dealer won't usually take another card due to the likelihood of going bust, if they have drawn 21 or if he has gone bust.
